Kandice Grossman has maintained a love for the arts and a passion for dance, movement and theater all her life. She began studying dance as a girl and has never stopped. Dance training includes ballet, jazz, modern, West African, Flamenco, Tango and Brazilian Samba.
She got into theater in her teens and throughout college, starring in classics such as Midsummer Nights Dream, Trojan Women, Wizard of Oz and Death of a Salesman. Kandice’s love of a variety of dance styles and theater is evident in her unique, story-like fusion choreographies today.
Kandice began studying yoga in college to accompany her passion for Eastern philosophy and Buddhism. After practicing for nearly 18 years, Kandice received her 200 hour teacher training at Urban Breath yoga studio in St. Louis, MO.
Kandice began studying belly dance as a teen and has studied with the nation’s most renowned teachers. Kandice is currently Jamila Level 3 certified and is working toward her Suhaila level 4 certification with the renowned Suhaila Salimpour School of Dance in Berkeley, CA.
Kandice founded Moon Belly Dance in Columbia, MO in 2002. Moon Belly offers regular weekly classes and workshops to students in the local area and Midwest region. In 2003, Kandice founded MOON Dance Company and is artistic director. MOON performs locally and nationally at various events.
In addition to her belly dance career, Kandice is also a Women and Gender Studies & Sociology college professor. In 2001, she completed a Master’s degree in Women’s Studies with a dissertation on the relationship between feminism and belly dance at the University of Manchester, UK. Her study of feminist theory and women’s empowerment is continuously weaved into her love of teaching women belly dance. She completed her PhD in 2022 at the University of Missouri.
Above all else, Kandice is the mother of two daughters. Her experience as a feminist and mother lends itself to her development as an artist in many ways. Dance has become the center of her family’s culture and lifestyle. Both daughters are blossoming belly dancers.jal;kfjsldk
